Fabric Storm
Fabric Storm is a a semi-immersive installation made from 48 white umbrellas, over a 100 years of layered fabric, ribbon, glass beads, and invisible fishing line-suspended to create the atmosphere of a storm frozen in midair. The piece was designed to evoke the tension and surrender of a passing storm, with materials cascading down from above in a mix of softness, weight, and quiet chaos.
Ambient audio of thunder and rainfall accompanied the visual experience, inviting viewers to step into a a meditative, emotional environment. The work explores themes of transition, emotional overwhelm, and the unseen strength it takes to endure.
Every material was chosen with meaning; umbrellas as protection, fabric as vulnerability, beads as fragmented emotion, and the invisible line that holds it all together-just as we hold ourselves together in the midst of emotional weather.
Originally built in 2023, Fabric Storm remains a visual poem for the storms we weather-personal, internal, and often unseen by others.
